Testing Process for FR Rain Gear

Overview of the Testing Facilities Used by NASCO Industries

At NASCO Industries, our use of state-of-the-art testing facilities shows our commitment to quality and safety. Equipped with advanced technology and cutting-edge equipment, these laboratories provide an ideal environment for conducting rigorous tests on FR rain gear.

These facilities are designed to follow industry-recognized test methods that mimic real-world conditions while ensuring the highest level of precision and accuracy in measurements. The dedicated technicians, who undergo extensive training, are responsible for carrying out these tests.

They possess a deep understanding of industry standards and testing protocols, enabling them to conduct comprehensive evaluations on each piece of FR rain gear. With meticulous attention to detail, they work diligently to ensure that every sample goes through a thorough examination to guarantee its quality and efficacy.

Pre-testing Preparations for FR Rain Gear Samples

Before subjecting the FR rain gear samples to rigorous testing procedures, we prioritize selecting representative samples from production batches. This careful selection ensures that the tested samples accurately represent the overall quality of our products.

Through this methodical approach, we can confidently assess the effectiveness and reliability of our FR rain gear across various production runs. Additionally, conditioning plays a crucial role in preparing the samples for testing.

We simulate real-world conditions by subjecting them to specific environments, such as extreme temperatures or high humidity levels. This conditioning process helps ensure that our FR rain gear performs optimally, even under challenging circumstances, providing maximum protection for individuals who rely on it.

Flame Resistance Testing

To ensure that all NASCO Industries’ FR rain gear meets or exceeds industry standards, we employ flame resistance testing as per the ASTM D6413 standard. This widely recognized standard provides an important first-line discriminator critical for evaluating the performance of flame-resistant materials.

The ASTM D6413 standard indicates a material’s ability to limit flame spread and self-extinguish. It details test parameters, including ignition time, burn rate, and char length. By meticulously measuring and assessing these parameters, we can determine the FR rain gear’s ability to withstand and mitigate the risks associated with flame exposure.

After passing D6413, if the material is to be electric arc tested, the next test method used is ASTM F1959.  This is a three-panel material test that exposes the material to a standardized electric arc flash and measures the amount of heat that passes through the material.  From that, it is determined how much energy is needed to create a second-degree burn on human tissue.  This is referred to as the Arc Rating.

If the material is to be flash fire tested, ASTM F1930 is the test method used.  This is a simulated manikin test that involves exposing a dressed manikin with a coverall made from the desired material and exposing it to three burns, each with a 3-second duration.  The sensors on the manikin determine how much energy passed through and calculated a predicted burn injury percentage.  This is the percentage of the body that would receive a second-degree burn.

Emphasizing precision and accuracy in measurements ensures that our FR rain gear is tested comprehensively, guaranteeing its reliability in dangerous situations. By prioritizing rigorous testing procedures, NASCO Industries is committed to providing high-quality FR rain gear that meets or exceeds industry standards.

Through advanced testing facilities and highly trained technicians, we ensure that each piece of FR rain gear undergoes thorough evaluation before reaching our customers.

NASCO Industries’ commitment to quality and safety extends beyond testing our FR rain gear in-house, we ensure that objective experts verify the efficacy of our protective garments. This independent verification bolsters industry credibility while reassuring those who rely on our FR rain gear for their safety needs.

At NASCO Industries, we take pride in delivering innovative and reliable products and peace of mind to our customers. Through rigorous testing processes and partnerships with esteemed certification organizations, we strive to exceed expectations, ensuring that our FR rain gear remains at the forefront of quality and safety.
